Radon Risk Assessment

Assessing Your Risk For Radon Exposure

Radon gas is a threat to your home or business, that could be silently lurking, poisoning your indoor air Radon Risk Dangerwithout being seen, heard or felt. Radon occurs due to the migration of glaciers across the Midwest. These glaciers were comprised of hard, dense rocks with higher levels of uranium of which radon is a by-product.

Radon is regarded as a major contaminate affecting indoor air quality. According to recent studies, it’s the second highest cause of lung cancer after exposure to tobacco smoke. This colorless, odorless, tasteless and radioactive gas, exhibits no visible symptoms of exposure.

Radon is very dense and heavy, which is why it’s so common in our homes and businesses. Soil surrounding a structure becomes saturated; therefore, allowing the radon gas to enter through the smallest of openings such as cracks in the foundation walls; construction joints; gaps around service pipes; and, even via the water supply. No building is exempt - old or newly constructed. According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website, “between five and ten percent of the homes in Wisconsin have radon levels above the US EPA guideline.... Every region of Wisconsin has some homes with elevated radon levels.”
